Lectures

Goal

The goal of Elaboration of Ph.D. Thesis Proposal is to prepare the student for submitting a doctoral dissertation through the systematization of research conducted within the courses Research and Publishing I-III.

Outcome

After successful defense of the Elaboration of Ph.D. Thesis Proposal, student should be able to: - Carry out an overview of the research results related to specific scientific topic; - Consider different solutions critically and self-critically; - Recognize and formulate a problem in a given narrow scientific area; - Define possible research directions for solving recognized problems; - Presents own results publicly and defend own views on the given topic.

Theoretical teaching

Elaboration of Ph.D. Thesis Proposal is prepared in agreement with the potential mentor. The student is obliged to prepare the written material of the Elaboration of Ph.D. Thesis Proposal. Elaboration of Ph.D. Thesis Proposal must include: - Introductory considerations with a brief description of the topic and state-of-the-art research in the narrow scientific field; - An overview of the literature resources, i.e. an overview of the research results of other authors in the field of Ph.D. thesis, which have been published in scientific journals; - Description of the subject of research; - Initial hypotheses, i.e. assumptions from which one starts when forming the concept of research; - Research methods - experimental (measurements in laboratory conditions using appropriate methodology or measurements on real objects), numerical (with verification of the set model), statistical (processing of data collected through a statistical survey on an appropriate sample), economic methods, optimization methods, etc. - Expected research results and expected scientific contribution, with explanation; - Concluding considerations and - List of references. After the acceptance of the submitted written Elaboration by the potential mentor, the Department forms a Commission for evaluation of the Elaboration of Ph.D. Thesis Proposal, after which the term of oral presentation and defense of the Elaboration before the Commission is determined. The Commission consists of 3 teachers. Upon completion of the presentation, members of the Commission submit a written report, which shall be accompanied by the appropriate examination form.

Practical teaching
