To learn and understand biomimicry as the imitation of forms, structures and functions in nature. To recognize that we seek inspiration for the solutions to tomorrow’s challenges in the principles of nature. To develop creative approaching for scientific research and engineering problems using modern methods of designing and manufacturing biomimetic microstructures.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will obtain the ability to: 1. Master the theoretical foundations and application of advanced research methods related to biomimetics. 2. Apply gained knowledge of computer aided design for geometric product modelling, generative design and topology optimization. 3. Integrate product design and additive manufacturing by applying CAD/CAM systems in the field of micromachining. 4. Analyse the quality of manufacturing by measuring.
1. Biomimetic microstructures for: energy absorption, heat exchange, structural optimization, etc. 2. Types of microstructures: auxetic structures, lattice structures and porous structures. 3. Application of biomimetic microstructures for implants, for metasurfaces, in robotics, biomedicine, aviation and automotive industries. 4. Additive technologies in the microscopic domain of application. 5. Measurement and characterization of microstructured surfaces.
