Department: Department of Theory of Mechanisms and Machines
An acquaintance of students with the standards and legalities of aesthetics in the process of designing mechanical systems. Recognition of subjective and objective factors in the formation of aesthetic judgment; treatment of aesthetic elements and principles; study of geometric laws of conformity; using classic and modern means to create aesthetic properties. Getting to know the rules of industrial design. The principle of forming complex geometric forms. Matching the aesthetic characteristics of the product with the functional requirements. Getting to know the characteristics of modern graphic language and the aesthetic properties of advertising, products, and product placing.
The student acquired the ability of aesthetic evaluation and the formation of aesthetic judgment. Through theoretical and practical teaching, the student is trained to creatively use both abstract elements and principles of aesthetics, as well as practical (classical and contemporary) means to create aesthetic properties of products. Also, students will be able to independently apply the principles of industrial design in functional technical systems.
Concept, definition, and importance of aesthetics and etymology of the name. Factors and importance of aesthetic judgment and aesthetic standards. Aesthetics, as a factor in designing a mechanical system. Detailed analysis of the aesthetic elements of form design, processing, and analysis of basic aesthetic principles of the design form. Treatment of geometric regularities as essential factors of product aesthetics; the concept of compositional coherence. Methods of creation and presentation of aesthetic properties (classical and contemporary); sketching and drawing; basic laws of oblique projection, orthogonal axonometry, central projection, and perspective. Principles of computer modeling of shapes using appropriate CAD software. Aesthetics of signs, symbols, and meanings; aesthetic properties of advertising and product presentation. Application of the principles of industrial design in the development and design of mechanical systems.
Independent analysis, formation, and presentation of examples on the topic of universal attitudes about aesthetics and basic principles of induction of aesthetic values and aesthetic evaluation. Exercises in the use of aesthetic elements and principles, constructive processing of classic geometric laws of aesthetics. Exercises in the use of classical (freehand sketching and drawing and technical drawing) and modern means of creation (using the appropriate CAD software) and presentation of the aesthetic properties of the product. Exercises in creating logos with an emphasis on the aesthetic and visual sense.
No condition.
Script: Aesthetic design; author: Dr. Zorana Jeli; The necessary additional materials (handouts, assignments, seminar papers, etc.) are provided on the web pages or reproduced on paper. Larger volumes of electronic materials can be accessed directly by students. Teaching is realized by combining video presentations, using a computer with appropriate CAD software, and a blackboard.
