Lectures

Goal

The main objective of the course is to develop an understanding of the mechanics of aircraft flight. Methods for assessing and calculating the basic performance and static stability of aircraft will be studied in the course.

Outcome

By mastering the prescribed curriculum, the student acquires sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge to be able to independently assess the performance of the aircraft and all the limitations of flight capabilities that arise from it. Within this course, students will receive a complete synthesis and verification of previously acquired knowledge and skills obtained within the group of subjects related to theoretical mechanics and aerodynamic subjects.

Theoretical teaching

Introduction. General definitions of flight mechanics. General characteristics of the power plant. Stationary flight condition aircraft performance. Special performances: takeoff, landing, range and flight duration. Horizontal flight. Powerless flight. Fundamentals of stability and maneuverability of the aircraft.

Practical teaching

Estimating of the basic aircraft performance. Estimating of the airplane special performance. Calculation of the range and endurance. Estimating of movement in the vertical plane. Aircraft gliding. Gliding airspeeds polar curve.

Attendance requirement

No formal prerequisites are required; however, it is recommended that students complete the course “Aerodynamic Constructions” before enrolling.

Resources

Lectures in electronic form, internet resources.
