Lectures

Goal

Description of various concepts changes for ship structures, especially ones related to modern ships - oil tankers, container ships, bulk carriers. Assessment of these changes with respect to calculation procedures and hull scantling determination.

Outcome

Application of ship structure strength calculations and scantling determination for modern ships.

Theoretical teaching

Torsion calculation for container ships and bulk carriers having large deck openings. Scantling determination for oil tankers with double hull. Fatigue calculation applied to the structural details. Application of finite element method and contemporary analytical methods for contemporary calculations of ship structures.

Practical teaching

Examination of ship classification rules and scietific literature with respect to abovementioned topics.

Attendance requirement

Defined by the study curriculum.

Resources

Rules for the classification of ships. Scientific and engineering studies.
