Lectures

Goal

Introducing candidates to problems and problem-solving in the fields of drying, evaporation, and moistening using appropriate scientific methods. The subject is designed as an advanced course in the mentioned areas at the doctoral level.

Outcome

Upon completion of the course, it is expected that the candidate will have mastered scientific knowledge related to the analysis and evaluation of scientific papers, methods of analyzing individual processes, laboratory work, as well as advanced modeling processes in the areas of drying, mass transport, and related phenomena.

Theoretical teaching

Classification of moisture removal processes. Convective drying. Theory of potential. Vapor-material equilibrium conditions. Moisture transfer in capillary-porous bodies. Analytical theory of heat and mass diffusion. Heat and material balance. Convective dryers. Conductive drying. Drying in a fluidized bed. Radiative drying. Spray drying. Sublimation drying. Selection of optimal process control conditions. Moistening processes. Heat transfer coefficient with phase change. Triple analogy. Cooling towers. Process modeling to determine dynamic parameters and system controllability.
